Natural wooden planter box available in FSC Certified western red cedar. Designed for exterior use, this is a smaller planter ideal for herbs, succulents and young plants. Available unfinished, or planter boxes can be finished with either natural tung oil or a plant based, food grade garden box sealer. Drainage holes are optional and can be added at no cost. This planter features wood which has been planed and sanded on the exterior face, and edges have been rounded with a 1/16" radius, allowing for easy handling. Inquiries for custom dimensions and materials are welcome.


Western red cedar is a fast growing domestic wood with exceptional resistance to pests, rot and decay, making it ideal for use in exterior furniture, garden structures, planters and raised beds. These planter boxes are assembled with exterior grade screws and a minimal amount of wood glue. This construction method results in a sturdy, long lasting planter box which will last through many seasons of use.

  • Dimensions:

    This planter is available in exterior dimensions from 12” to 16” across. Dimensions listed refer to the exterior dimensions of the box, and are listed as Length x Width x Depth. A 12" x 12" x 8" box will have a total exterior length of 12", a width of 12" and a depth of 8". The interior dimensions will be smaller. Please deduct 1.25" from the total dimensions to determine the interior dimensions of the box. A 12" x 12" x 8" box will have interior dimensions of approx. 10.75" x 10.75" x 6.75".

    Material:

    Our planter boxes are made exclusively with FSC Certified western red cedar, which comes from sustainably managed forests in North America's west coast. While this material requires greater effort to source than conventional cedar lumber, it offers greater ecological benefits, performance and beauty, and has a lower environmental footprint. Pure tung oil is available as a natural, biodegradable finish option.

    Each box is handmade from natural materials, and there will be some variation in dimensions and appearance characteristic of handmade items. Planter boxes may have visible horizontal seams where two or more boards are needed to achieve height. This design can be made in other dimensions and materials, and custom inquiries are welcome.

  • Wood is a natural material, and will weather over time with environmental exposure. Weathering can include, but is not limited to: wood movement, warping, bowing and/or cupping, color changes, deterioration, and damage due to pests. Most cedar wood will silver over time, which can be regarded as an aesthetic feature. All wood will weather and change over time, but you may mitigate these changes by sealing or oiling the wood. Finishing the boxes will extend the lifetime of the planter as well as help to preserve the wood's appearance. Color change is normal and will occur with exposure to the elements, especially sunlight and rain. Natural staining may occur due to contact with soil, water, metals and other materials. Expect your cedar planter to change in appearance over time. This can be regarded as a natural feature of the wood, and part of wood's inherent beauty.

    All items are made in and ship from southern California. Smaller items will ship via USPS Priority Mail or USPS Ground Saver. Please contact us if you require an alternative shipping carrier. Furniture items will ship via a white glove delivery service. For furniture items, costs of shipping, handling and delivery are included in your purchase. At this time, we only ship within the united states. Please contact us if you wish to place an international order. Local pickup is available in north county San Diego, California.     For all furniture items, we require signature upon delivery. For furniture items shipping via a white glove delivery service, you will have the option to coordinate delivery times with the carrier.
