Natural Cedar Planter with Casters

Natural wooden planter box made of western red cedar. Designed for outdoor gardening, this is a planter which can withstand many seasons of use. This planter has heavy duty casters added for convenience, allowing you to move your planter around as needed while avoiding heavy lifting. Casters will lock in place for stability. Available unfinished, or planter boxes can be finished with either natural tung oil or a plant based, food grade garden box sealer. Drainage holes are included. Inquiries for custom dimensions and materials are welcome.

This planter features milled cedar lumber and beveled siding which has been planed and sanded on the exterior face. The construction of this piece goes beyond a conventional planter box, incorporating wood joinery and heavy duty brackets for strength and stability. This method of construction results in a long lasting, sturdy and structurally sound planter, while still allowing for natural wood movement that occurs with the seasons. Planters ship fully assembled and ready to use.

Western red cedar is a fast growing domestic wood with exceptional resistance to pests, rot and decay, making it ideal for use in exterior furniture, garden structures, planters and raised beds. Cedar is beautiful in its natural, unfinished state, and a natural tung oil finish or sealer can extend the lifetime of your planter.

    dimensions are listed as length x width x height, or length x width x depth. the dimensions in this product’s description refer to exterior dimensions of the planter. The interior dimensions (soil area) will be smaller. 20” x 20” planters will have interior dimensions of 16” x 16” x 16”; 22” x 22” planters will have interior dimensions of 18” x 18” x 16”, and 24” x 24” planters will have interior dimensions of 20” x 20” x 16”. All planters in this listing have a height of 22.75”.

  • This planter is designed for exterior use, and natural wood movement and changes in color are normal and to be expected. Wood is a natural material, and will weather over time with environmental exposure. Weathering can include, but is not limited to: wood movement, warping, bowing and/or cupping, color changes, deterioration, and damage due to pests. Most cedar wood will silver over time, which can be regarded as an aesthetic feature. Color change is normal and will occur with exposure to the elements, especially sunlight and rain. Natural staining may occur due to contact with soil, water, metals and other materials. Expect your cedar planter to change in appearance over time. This can be regarded as a natural feature of the wood, and part of wood's inherent beauty.

    Cedar wood will weather when exposed to the elements, but you may mitigate these changes by sealing or oiling the wood. Finishing the boxes will extend the lifetime of the planter as well as help to preserve the wood's appearance. Periodically assess your planter’s condition. Check screws for any loosening, and retighten with a handheld screwdriver as necessary. Adding additional coats of tung oil or garden box sealer will help to preserve and protect the wood.

    Preventing direct soil contact with the wood of your planter is not necessary, but will extend the life of the planter. A landscape fabric liner is a good option to mitigate direct soil contact with the wood and keep soil contained to the planter. Landscape fabric liner does not prevent water from reaching the planter. A marine HDPE liner will significantly extend the life of your planter by preventing water and soil from direct contact with your planter.
